Your Visit

For your comfort and assurance we provide you with a soothing, calm environment and offer our further reassurance by explaining your treatment in everyday language, to the depth you request and to your satisfaction.

A majority of our patients are referred to our practice by their family dentist and thus are new to our office.  If the patient is unfamiliar with our staff and treatment approach, we take the necessary time to thoroughly explain what will be involved with your procedure.  To allay your apprehension of the unknown, we offer the latest in sedation and IV anesthesia techniques.  These topics are reviewed at your consultation appointment.

If you have significant health problems that require a physician's treatment or you take multiple medications, we maybe required to contact your physician in order to adjust the medications or order further lab tests prior to anesthesia and surgery.  Some example medications are high blood pressure meds, insulin, diabetic meds, anti-seizure meds, anti-anxiety meds, heart meds, asthma or breathing meds, or blood thinning meds.

If necessary, our staff will take a facial/jaw x-ray called an orthopantomogram or "panorex", to evaluate your teeth and facial/jaw bone condition. We can then determine if any problems exist and recommend appropriate treatment. We may use the x-ray sent from your family dentist, if it is available, not over one year old, and of good x-ray quality of the area in question.

Most surgical procedures take less than one hour and when anesthesia or sedation techniques are utilized, a responsible adult driver must remain on the premises during your treatment.  Additionally, minor age (children) patients must have their legal parent(s) or guardian present to review the procedures with the doctor, to provide the child’s medical history and to sign the proper legal consent forms.

A small percentage of patients require hospitalization to complete their surgical procedures.  Usually, these arrangements are made during your consultation visit.  Both doctors are affiliated with several of the local hospitals for inpatient and outpatient procedures.

*ATTENTION* Patients who desire IV anesthesia (to go to sleep) for their surgery are instructed to not take anything by mouth (food or liquid) for a minimum of 6 hours prior to their scheduled office or hospital appointment time.  Disregard of these instructions may result in cancellation of the procedures and rescheduling for the patient’s medical safety.

No matter what the oral surgical problem may be, Dr. Gilbert, Dr. Green and their staff are prepared to manage your problem in a caring, professional, state of the art manner and calm environment.
